Lions Defeat Spartans
Lions Defeat Spartans
The Virginia Lions silenced the Spartans 35-28 as they welcomed their fans for the home opener at Kip Hull field.  The Lions came out a bit anxious and found themselves down by 12 points before things started to turn around.  Then the Lions scoring attack started to unfold.  QB Zach Terrell was given time by the Lions offensive line and he found WR Darnell Edwards on a 52 yard touchdown pass.  Terrell also connected with WR AC Fitchett on 2 receptions which resulted in 68 yards and a TD. The O Line (Enoch Boateng, Jose Portillo, Ellery Moore, Chris Foddrell, Gabe Daraie and Dashon Latta) did a great job paving the way and opening big holes for RB Michael Roberts (11 Rushes 69 yards and a TD), and QB Zach Terrell (20 Rushes 95 yards and a TD). In the second half of the game it seemed like the Spartans simply could not stop the Lions ground attack.  On defense, the Lions played well with 3 goaline stances and solid tackling all game.  The defense applied pressure on the Spartans QB all game long. The Lions defense got sacks from DB Ryan Burroughs, DE Ben Harris III, DE Lawrence Robinson, and DB Tirell Tibbs who each had a sack. DB Justin Hackett also had a defensive TD as he scooped up DE Ben Harris III forced fumble and scored.  CB BJ Reynolds led the team in tackles with 8 and also had a blocked extra point. After the game, Coach Mike Johnson said "I am happy with the offensive results, but felt we could have capitalized on several opportunities that were presented.  Also Coach Jason Lockamy made some key adjustments at the half to improve the o-line which led to the successfull ground attack.  On defense we were consistant all game, limiting big plays." Please have a Happy and Safe 4th of July!!! The Lions will now go to work to prepare for the Central VA Warriors scheduled for July 10, 2010 at Liberty High school 7pm. See you there!
